People and the cities

Looks like that in every city, people love to decorate the streets for any and all occasions. Here in Malta, maybe they love it a little bit more. A great example is the churches. From the foundations up to the belfries, the churches here have little lights all over. And they light them up every chance they can get. Christmas… feasts… everything!

The other day I was walking to Valletta after 18:00 and I saw some municipality workers to try to put gigantic green ribbons and red wreaths to decorate different places in the city, and I couldn’t help but wonder. What is it again? And then it came to me. The Baroque Festival. This is a festival about music. And baroque. But come on? What is not baroque in Malta?

This little meeting with the workers reminds me of my hometown. Thessaloniki. At around 12 o’ clock at night I’ll be waiting for a taxi to go home after work and… there. Here they are. Trying to make the city happy and festive. Workers just putting the Christmas lights all over Aristotelous Square. So it seems all these beautiful cities, no matter how different, have something really special in common. After all, the only thing that matters is not the place you are, but where your heart is….
