The 4th edition of the KINO Athens – International Independent Film Festival is pleased to once again announce the screenings of the films nominated for the LUX Audience Award, presented annually by the European Parliament. The screenings will take place from Monday 16 March to Wednesday 18 March at the Goethe-Institut Athens, offering audiences a unique opportunity to discover some of the most dynamic and socially relevant European cinematic works.
Each year, the LUX Audience Award honors outstanding European filmmaking, while promoting cultural diversity and public dialogue across Europe. The award highlights films that address pressing social and political issues, encouraging audiences to actively engage with stories that reflect contemporary European realities.

As part of the program, the festival will give viewers the opportunity to rate the films, contributing to the final selection of the winner. Thanks to the LUX Audience Award, the five nominated films have been subtitled in the 24 official languages of the EU in order to be screened in all EU Member States and beyond. For the first time this year, the five nominated films will also be available with subtitles for deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences in all 24 EU languages, making the films accessible to a wider audience.
Among those who rate the films, ten citizens will win a trip to attend the LUX Audience Award Ceremony at the European Parliament, while 120 citizens will win other exciting prizes.

Synopsis: What begins as a minor accident sets in motion a series of escalating consequences.

Synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Christy is forced to move in with his estranged older half-brother after being thrown out of his suburban foster home. While his brother considers the arrangement temporary, Christy starts to feel at home in Cork’s working-class Northside. He begins making friends and reconnecting with his roots—despite the potentially negative influence of his extended family. As his brother tries to secure a better future for him, both are confronted with tough decisions that challenge their fragile bond. Together, they must navigate their shared past and uncertain future.

Synopsis: Sisters Nora and Agnes reunite with their estranged father, the charismatic Gustav, a once-renowned director who offers stage actress Nora a role in what he hopes will be his comeback film. When Nora turns it down, she soon discovers he has given her part to an eager young Hollywood star. Suddenly, the two sisters must navigate their complicated relationship with their father – and deal with an American star dropped right into the middle of their complex family dynamics.

The LUX Awards screenings will take place at the Goethe-Institut Athen (14–16 Omirou Street, 106 72) with free admission. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
